In what can only be described as the most wholesome social media trend of the year, sourdough bakers across Facebook have taken to posing with their loaves as if they were prized catches of the day.
Inspired by the classic fisherman photo, where anglers proudly display their latest haul, bakers are now striking similar poses—only their “catch” is a perfectly fermented loaf of bread.
Courtney Ayres, a member of the Facebook group “Sourdough for Beginners,” was one of the first to dive in.
“I couldn’t resist doing this social media trend with my sourdough. Pretty proud of this crumb🤣,” she wrote. Her post quickly gained traction, racking up over 30,000 likes.
The comments section became a comedy goldmine, with one user joking, “You should hold it closer to the camera to make it seem bigger.”
Another participant chimed in with some tried-and-true fisherman advice: “Love it. You have to extend your arms forward so the slice looks bigger than it actually is. Just like fishermen do. LOL.”
Ayres isn’t the only baker to get hooked on the trend. Misty Dowdy joined in on the fun, saying, “Saw this trend about posing with your sourdough bread like men pose with their fish! Had to try it!!!”
Meanwhile, Shelby Brookey kept it simple, captioning her photo: “Decided to pose with my sourdough like dudes do with their fish 🎣 🤣🤣.”
Brandy Bernier took the challenge to the next level by incorporating her latest bake: “Had to get on board with the ‘fish pose’ photoshoot and my first attempt at a double chocolate espresso loaf. How did I do?”
If her likes and comments are any indication, she nailed both the bread and the pose.
The trend has even drawn participation from women who actually fish, eager to remind everyone that casting lines isn’t just for the guys. A few proudly shared photos of themselves with real fish, proving they can hold their own—whether it’s on the water or in the kitchen.
With more and more bakers casting their loaves into the social media waters, it’s safe to say this trend isn’t going stale anytime soon.
Whether it’s about perfecting the crumb or just having a good laugh, the sourdough community continues to prove that baking is about more than just bread—it’s about connection, creativity, and a whole lot of fun.
So, the next time you pull a golden, crusty loaf from the oven, consider giving it the fisherman treatment. Who knows? Your next post might just be the biggest catch of the day.
