THAT SOURDOUGH GAL

Embracing the sourdough journey, mistakes & all

Low-Stress

I’ve had new sourdough bakers come to me saying they’ve shed too many tears over their sourdough. It’s my hope that we can create an environment where we laugh at the setbacks instead of stress about them.

All the Joy

For me, sourdough is less about how perfect each loaf looks and more about the joy I get from the process. From trying new experiments to getting meditative while handling the dough, I’m focused on just having fun.

Welcoming the Mistakes

Let your last loaf be your teacher. I embrace mistakes along the way, because that’s the best way to learn. How I do sourdough today is undoubtedly different from how I did it last year and how I’ll do it next year. It’s a journey!

Some of My Favorite Sourdough Resources

I’m not so naive to think I have all the answers! I’ve learned a lot from other sourdough creators, authors, and experts. Here are some of the ones I constantly find myself going back to.

  • Maurizio Leo, The Perfect Loaf: introduced the idea of a desired dough temperature to me; I use his water temperature calculator all the time. Recipes you can trust.
  • Tom Cacuzza, The Sourdough Journey: fantastic bulk fermentation resource; came up with the dough temperature and percentage rise chart so many bakers use. Does lots of fun experiments; a very scientific approach to sourdough.
  • Amy Bakes Bread: a sourdough content creator that makes some really great, unique recipes. The speed at which she posts new recipes boggles my mind.
  • Adelina Roberts, @breadstalker_ on Instagram: If you’re going after that big, open crumb, I can’t think of a better resource. Her bread amazes me every time I see it on my Instagram feed.
  • Parker Cook, Basil and Bloom: Parker debunks a lot of sourdough myths and makes sourdough approachable while also explaining the science behind it. A very reliable, experienced resource.
  • Trevor J. Wilson, Open Crumb Mastery: Wilson’s e-book goes into a ton of depth (384 pages worth) about achieving an open crumb and lacy crumb styles. A great resource for experienced sourdough bakers who want to go even deeper on their knowledge.
  • Jenn, The Sourthern Sourdough Co.: Jenn’s TikTok page really inspired me to get back into sourdough. It’s definitely less scientific, but her laid-back approach is very beginner-friendly. I love how real she is on her channel.
