As a sourdough baker, my wish list for Christmas (and birthdays, Mother’s Day, Easter, and any other holiday I can think of!) is packed with sourdough goodies I haven’t quite justified splurging on for myself.

But boy… have I longed for them.

Making sourdough doesn’t have to be expensive, but there are so many tools and supplies that can make the process easier and more enjoyable.

So, here is a list of the best gifts for sourdough bakers. A ton of small businesses are on this list, many of which were started by sourdough bakers and creators. I’m stoked about it!

And yes, I will be sending this to my husband.

What This Isn’t: This is not a list of items a brand new sourdough baker needs to get started (please refer to my “tools you need” list in my artisan bread recipe if you need that instead). This is a guide of more unique sourdough gift ideas – nice-to-have tools and supplies that would make any bread baker smile. I think of this as the stuff I add to my wishlist in the hopes that I may splurge and get it someday.

P.S: To cover the cost of running my sourdough blog, I do sometimes link to products. While it certainly isn’t always the case, please just assume that all links are affiliate links. If you choose to buy through my links, then THANK YOU – it will make it possible for me to keep creating sourdough content.

Sourdough Gift Ideas Under $25

Bread-Themed Stickers: “Happiness is the smell of freshly baked bread” and “At yeast we have enough bread” are the types of cute sayings you’ll find on these bread-themed stickers. This pack is less than $10 and is the perfect stocking stuffer or filler for a sourdough-themed gift basket.

The Bread Journal: If the sourdough baker you’re shopping for has a Type A personality, this is the perfect stocking stuffer. They can notate all the details about each bake to better understand how little tweaks impact the final result.

tortillas in tortilla warmer

Nordic Ware Microwave Tortilla and Pancake Warmer: If your sourdough baker makes tortillas, pancakes, or waffles on the regular, this warmer is amazing! While not essential, it’s firmly in the “nice-to-have” category.

redmonds sea salt

Redmond’s Sea Salt: A super high-quality sea salt, perfect for use in sourdough baked goods or – my favorite – to top off a chocolate chip cookie. Plus, it’s the perfect size to be a great stocking stuffer.

The Art of Sourdough Scoring: A great guide for learning more intricate scoring designs. Step-by-step photos and lots of detailed instructions.

Wild Clementine Reusable Bowl Covers: An eco-friendly way to cover up a bowl full of sourdough dough. They are food-safe, machine washable, and even waterproof. Plus, you’re supporting a small business with each purchase.

Dean Jacob’s Bread Dipping for 2 (Boxed Set): I LOVE dipping fresh sourdough bread in a nice dipping oil. My mom gifted me a bread dipping kit a few years ago and it was one of my favorite gifts.

the perfect loaf

The Perfect Loaf by Maurizio Leo: One of my favorite sourdough books – it’s a recipe book, an instructional book, and everything in between. It includes all the little details, and the recipes I’ve made from it have been some of my best. A must-have for sourdough geeks.

Dehydrated Sourdough Starter: Get 10% off with code THATSOURDOUGHGAL. If you’re shopping for someone who says they want to get into sourdough for their New Year’s resolution, I had to throw this one in there. This popular sourdough starter named Eve will help them get off to a good start. Definitely one of the first things you need!

doap

DOAP: Get 10% off with code TSG10. Quite possibly the most adorable stocking stuffer (and the most practical). Handmade in Nashville, TN, these hand scrubbers are a sourdough baker’s dream. They make it easy to scrub off that sticky dough after a good kneading session.

Butter Crock: We sourdough lovers need room-temperature butter at all times – you never know when a warm slice of sourdough calls for it. These butter crocks are a great way to keep the butter fresh. Plus, they’re cute.

sourdough wood sign copy

Sourdough Farmhouse Wood Sign: Use code SOURDOUGH15 for 15% off. My mom handmakes these wooden signs – I have them all over my house, but obviously, this cute sourdough one is going on my wishlist.

Sourdough Gift Ideas $25-$50

The Sourdough Whisperer by Elaine Boddy: A must-have book for sourdough lovers! I love flipping through this and studying her recipes. She has a very unique style that favors overnight fermentation and colder homes (64-68°F). A fresh perspective on sourdough for sure!

nectar and nest bread bags

Nectar & Nest Beeswax Reusable Bread Bags: Get 10% off with code SOURDOUGHGAL. My favorite way to store fresh sourdough on the counter. It avoids plastic waste and works surprisingly well. You can watch my video review here.

flourside bannetons

Flourside Bannetons: Get 5% off with code TSG5. These bannetons are insanely good.

The wood pulp material absorbs excess moisture, providing a perfect surface for scoring and a nice, thin, crackly crust after baking.

Plus, I’ve met the founder, and he is the most genuine, kind guy. You can feel good about supporting this small business.

bulka banneton

Bulka Bannetons: These are raved about in the sourdough space for a reason!

They’re the same material as the Flourside bannetons, but they’re available on Amazon and have different size offerings.

In My Sourdough Era Sweatshirt: Use code SOURDOUGH15 for 15% off. The perfect merch for the millennial sourdough nerd in your life. Size up for a roomy, cozy sweatshirt. You can also customize it with the baker’s name if you want to level it up to an even more thoughtful gift!

Mason Cash Mixing Bowl: Another one of those nice-to-have sourdough items that other bread bakers ooh and ahh over. This is a beautiful mixing bowl, and I’m guessing the recipient will immediately recognize and appreciate this brand.

Wire Monkey Goose Bread Lame: Get 10% off automatically when clicking my link. These bread lames are pretty famous in the sourdough community for being high-quality and durable. A staple for beautiful designs on those sourdough loaves.

Sourdough Gift Ideas $50-$200

Brod & Taylor Baking Shell: Firmly on my Amazon wishlist. A lightweight alternative to a Dutch oven. Perfect for a home baker.

Maple Rolling Pin and Mat Set: Definitely a splurge, but a great gift set, especially if your sourdough lover makes homemade tortillas. The size guide on the mat is ideal.

made with loave sourdough kit

Made with Loave Sourdough Starter Kit: Get 10% off with code THATSOURDOUGHGAL. All the staple items a new sourdough baker needs. If the gift recipient is making do with what they have at home but could really use a leveling up, this is the perfect set. Plus, you’re supporting two amazing sourdough creators (not some faceless Amazon store).

thermapen one

Thermapen One: Hands-down the best, most accurate thermometer on the market. My ride-or-die. An essential tool for bakers who want to nail down bulk fermentation by taking the temperature of their dough. Also great for temping dough in the oven to ensure it’s baked all the way through.

Pinafore Apron by Hedley & Bennett: Quite possibly the most flattering apron I’ve ever seen. I usually sport splotches of flour on my clothes, but I have trouble forking over so much money for an apron. That makes this the perfect gift for serious bakers.

krustic bread dome

Krustic Bread Dome: Use code REBEKAH20 for $20 off. My current favorite bread baking vessel. It does a fantastic job of making delicious bread without totally breaking the bank (yes, bread domes get way pricier than this).

Read my review of the Krustic bread domes here: Krustic Bread Dome Review: Worth It for Sourdough Bakers?

Cuisinart Double Sided Belgian Waffle Maker: Sourdough waffles are incredible, and having one of these kicka** waffle makers would take the whole experience to the next level. Not a necessity, but a very cool item to have in the kitchen.

Brod & Taylor Sourdough Home: If your sourdough enthusiast keeps a cool house, this is the perfect gift. They can store their sourdough starter in this little home, and it keeps it warm for the ideal growth and health of said starter.

Hanna Bread & Dough pH Tester: The perfect gift for a science geek who enjoys the details. If your sourdough lover has an analytical brain, I think they would love this! You can use it to test the acidity of your starter and dough, which you can then use to tweak the final flavor and gauge bulk fermentation progress.

Emile Henry Baguette Baker: Emile Henry is another name we all go gaga for in the sourdough space. Her baking vessels are gorgeous and high-quality. The baguette baker is one of many, but it’s certainly one I’ve had my eye on.

manual bread slicer

Zassenhaus Manual Bread Slicer: Husband, if you’re reading this, this is the one. This is the thing I want. Getting perfect bread slices from a sourdough boule is a near-impossible task, but not with this thing. Forget a bread knife. This is its replacement.

Sourdough Gift Ideas $200+

Brod & Taylor Folding Proofer: While this is a larger contraption, it’s fantastic for keeping dough at a steady temperature. I would be remiss if I didn’t include it in this gift guide for its sheer practicality and usefulness.

Challenger Bread Pan: One of the most popular sourdough bread baking vessels, I would venture to say. High-quality, loved by many.

NutriMill Harvest Electric Stone Grain Mill: Get $20 off with code TSG20. I love the idea of milling my own grain – it elevates the entire breadmaking process (not to mention all the health benefits). The price of this machine may be a hurdle, and you need the storage space for it. But if all of that aligns, this is the gift that would win Christmas.

Bosch Universal Plus Stand Mixer: This Bosch mixer is perfect for kneading bread dough. If the sourdough baker on your shopping list complains of sore arms and too much dough handling, this is the perfect gift. The KitchenAid mixer is also good, but the Bosch is a little better when it comes to dough.

Conclusion

Whether you’re shopping for a Christmas gift, birthday gift, or just because, this list of sourdough tools and supplies would make any bread maker happy.

Yes, you can always get some of the more introductory items, like parchment paper, a dough scraper, a Danish dough whisk, or a set of glass bowls. But if you want more unique sourdough items, I hope you find the perfect idea here.

I hope this sourdough gift guide is helpful, and please be sure to comment below any additional ideas that you think should be added!
